This immersive experience promises to be a life-changing adventure that will deepen your yoga practice, expand your knowledge, and pave the way to becoming a certified yoga instructor. To make the most of this incredible opportunity, it’s essential to prepare adequately. The YTTC is no walk in the park and should be undertaken with thought, care and commitment. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your experience.
1. Familiarise Yourself with the Curriculum:
Before you arrive at the training centre, take some time to familiarise yourself with the YTTC200 curriculum. Read through the course syllabus, order the study materials, and get started on the pre reading sent to you in your Welcome Letter. Understanding what topics will be covered will help you mentally prepare for the immersive training ahead and allow you to set specific intentions for your learning journey. You may find it helpful to create a KWL grid in your journey: What you already Know, What you would like to know and then at the end you can reflect on what you Learned. Setting yourself an intention or goal is great for harnessing a mindset ready for learning.
2. Strengthen Your Practice:
A solid foundation in yoga practice is essential for a successful YTT experience. Attend regular yoga classes, both physically and virtually, to strengthen your practice. Focus on different styles and forms of yoga to broaden your understanding and prepare yourself for the various aspects of the YTTC200 curriculum.
3. Cultivate a Mindful Lifestyle:
Yoga is not just a physical practice; it’s a way of life. Embrace mindfulness in your everyday routine. Practise meditation, journaling, or breathing exercises to connect with your inner self. Developing mindfulness will enhance your receptiveness during the training, making it easier to absorb new concepts and insights.
4. Brush Up on Yoga Philosophy:
Yoga is rooted in ancient wisdom and philosophy. Familiarise yourself with the fundamental course texts such as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, or the Bhagavad Gita, and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. This background knowledge will enrich your understanding of the philosophical aspects of yoga, which play a significant role in the YTTC200.
5. Stay Hydrated and Eat Well:
Physical and mental stamina are crucial for an intensive training like YTTC200. Begin focusing on nourishing your body with a balanced diet and staying hydrated. Avoid excessive caffeine and processed foods, and instead opt for fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to keep your energy levels stable.
6. Invest in Quality Yoga Gear:
Make sure you have comfortable and durable yoga gear to support you throughout the training. Invest in a high-quality yoga mat, comfortable clothing, and any props you may need during home practice. Remember, you can borrow all the equipment but we ask you to bring your own mat – this will be you ‘home’ throughout the 11 months and essential you build your practice on the same mat. Feeling comfortable during the training will help you concentrate on learning and absorbing the teachings.
7. Prepare for Self-Reflection:
During your YTT, you will undoubtedly undergo moments of self-discovery and introspection. Be open to exploring your emotions, thoughts, and personal beliefs. This journey might be challenging at times, but it will lead to immense personal growth and authenticity as a yoga teacher. Why not start keeping a brief journal if you haven’t ever done so – a gratitude journal can be a great way to start and build joy. Simply list 3-5 things you’re grateful for each morning. Get creative – you’ll realise life is good and we have a lot to be happy about!
8. Connect with Past Participants:
Reach out to individuals who have completed the YTTC200 in Derby or elsewhere. Seek their advice, listen to their experiences, and learn from their insights. Their wisdom can offer valuable tips and perspectives to help you navigate your own training journey.
9. Keep an Open Mind:
Approach the YTTC200 with an open mind and heart. Embrace new teachings and be receptive to different perspectives. Remember that learning is a continuous process, and being open to change will make your experience all the more transformative. Start listening to Yoga Ethic podcasts to get a feel for the pitfalls and challenges facing the Yoga World.
10. Rest and Relax:
In the days leading up to your YTTC200, make sure to get ample rest and relaxation. This will ensure you arrive at the training centre feeling refreshed and ready to absorb all the knowledge and experiences that await you.
Remember, your YTTC200 is not just about becoming a certified yoga teacher, but also about delving deeper into the essence of yoga and self-discovery. Embrace every moment with enthusiasm, and you will undoubtedly have a fulfilling and enriching start to your journey as a yoga instructor.
