Finding the Right Yoga School
When searching for a YTTC, it is crucial to find a program that aligns with your goals and provides a high-quality learning experience. Key factors to consider when selecting the ideal program include ethics of the studio and trainers and well as the quality of the program.
Experienced and Qualified Trainers
Ensure that the program you choose has trainers with a minimum of 8 years of teaching experience. This extensive experience guarantees that you will be learning from knowledgeable instructors who have a deep understanding of yoga and teaching methodologies. The Elevated Yoga Alliance International (YA) Standards Insist on a lead teacher who holds an ERYT500 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher with a level 2 qualification) certification, which signifies their expertise and advanced level – look them up on YA to verify their credentials.
Accreditation and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Verify that the program is accredited by YA International, an internationally recognised organisation that sets high standards for YTTC. Accreditation ensures that the program meets the necessary criteria and that your certification will be recognized globally. Additionally, ensure that the program counts towards your ongoing CPD (Continuing Professional Development), allowing you to continue your education and growth as a teacher.
Course Eligibility requirements
To maintain high quality and standards in the yoga industry, the YTTC should insist on prerequisites and requirements for enrolment. This is a sign of quality and ethics. These criteria are designed to ensure that participants have a solid foundation and sufficient experience to fully benefit from the course. Additionally, it reflects the ethical commitment of the program to provide an immersive and valuable learning experience for all participants.
Compliance with Elevated Yoga Alliance Standards
Look for a program that complies with elevated Standards. This ensures that the curriculum meets rigorous requirements and provides comprehensive learning opportunities in areas such as yoga philosophy, anatomy, teaching methodologies, and practical experience.
Internationally Recognised Trainers in their faculty
It is beneficial to have a faculty comprising internationally recognised trainers who are experts in their respective fields. These trainers bring a wealth of knowledge, diverse perspectives, and specialised expertise, enriching your learning experience.
Personalised and Inclusive Learning Environment
Seek a school that fosters a personalised, friendly, and inclusive learning environment. A supportive and inclusive atmosphere encourages open dialogue, fosters connections with fellow trainees, and creates a nurturing space for growth and self-discovery.
Quality Ongoing Mentoring
Look for a school that offers quality ongoing mentoring. Having access to experienced mentors who can provide guidance, support, and feedback throughout and beyond the classroom is invaluable in your development as a yoga teacher.
Luxury, Fully Equipped Yoga Shala
Consider the facilities provided by the program. Look for a luxury, fully equipped Yoga Shala, which offers a dedicated space for your training, creating a serene and conducive environment for practice and learning.

Elevated Standards and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
The Breathing Space Yoga Studio upholds the elevated standards set forth by YA International, ensuring a comprehensive and high-quality training experience for participants. These elevated standards bring about several key enhancements and requirements that elevate the training program and benefit the trainees:
The Elevated Standards mandate that 100% of the minimally-required training hours be conducted in a classroom setting, directly tied to the core curriculum and learning objectives. However, a maximum of 40 classroom hours can be delivered online, specifically in the categories of Anatomy & Physiology and Yoga Humanities. The Elevated Standards require Registered Yoga Schools (RYSs) to assess the knowledge, skills, and experience of trainees before certifying them as teachers. This assessment ensures that trainees meet the required standards and are adequately prepared to embark on their teaching journey.
There are also increased Requirements for RYS 200 Lead Trainer: The Elevated Standards also raise the requirements for the RYS 200 Lead Trainer. At the Breathing Space, the commitment extends beyond the training program. The studio is dedicated to providing ongoing lifetime mentorship for all yoga graduates. Additionally, they offer a year-round curriculum of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities, enabling teachers to further develop their skills and expand their knowledge.
The CPD opportunities available at the Breathing Space cover a range of specialised areas. These include Trauma-informed Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga, Hands-On Assists, Chair Yoga, Aerial Yoga, and Yoga Nidra. These additional trainings allow teachers to deepen their expertise in specific areas of interest and continue their professional growth beyond studies.
By adhering to the Elevated Standards and offering comprehensive CPD opportunities, the Breathing Space Yoga Studio ensures that graduates are equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, and ongoing support to excel as yoga instructors and continue their professional development throughout their careers.
Yoga Teaching Income Opportunities
As a 200-hour yoga instructor (RYT 200), there are various income opportunities available within the yoga industry. While earnings can vary depending on factors such as location and experience, this section provides a general overview of typical income ranges for different teaching settings:
Yoga studios provide a dedicated yoga environment and attract students seeking a focused yoga experience. As a teacher in a yoga studio, you can expect to earn between £25 and £35 per class. These classes offer a supportive and serene setting where students can immerse themselves in their practice.
Teaching yoga at gyms is another option, although the rates tend to be lower compared to studio classes. In gym settings, where yoga classes are often included as part of a membership package, earnings range from around £15 per class. While the rates may be lower, teaching yoga in gyms offers the opportunity to reach a broader audience and introduce yoga to individuals who may not have otherwise tried it.
Private one-on-one sessions provide personalised attention and allow teachers to tailor the practice to the specific needs and goals of the student. For these private sessions, teachers can charge approximately £50 per session, reflecting the individualised nature of the instruction and the higher level of customization involved.
Teaching in community centres or church halls may require renting the space, typically costing around £20 for an hour-long class. In such cases, charging £6-8 per student can help cover the rental costs and generate income. This option allows teachers to engage with the local community and provide accessible yoga classes to a wider range of individuals.
Workshops are specialised classes or events that often run for a longer duration, typically two hours or more. Teachers typically charge around £25 per person for a two-hour workshop. Workshops provide an opportunity to delve deeply into specific yoga themes or practices, offering participants a more immersive and intensive learning experience.
Some teachers also organise retreats for their community, which can be annual or biannual events. The revenue generated from retreats varies depending on factors such as the number of participants and the expenses allocated to catering and accommodations. Organising retreats requires significant planning and effort, but they can be both fulfilling and financially rewarding for teachers.
It’s important to note that these income ranges are approximate and can vary based on factors such as location, market demand, and the teacher’s experience and reputation. As you gain more experience and establish yourself as a teacher, there may be opportunities to negotiate higher rates or offer specialised workshops and retreats that command premium pricing.
Testimonial and Gratitude
We are incredibly grateful to receive such heartfelt feedback from Rachel, one of our esteemed graduates of the 200-hour teacher training. Her testimonial reflects the transformative and enriching journey experienced throughout the training program. Here is Rachel’s testimonial:
“I cannot believe we are approaching the end! Bitter sweet, so excited to have got this far and for what comes next, but will miss our 200-hour retreat weekends together so so much. My practice has transformed!
The School is led by amazing teachers, with so much lived experience. Christine, the lead teacher, is an incredible mentor with such a passion for yoga, and I’ve loved the teaching input from Bel and Yashwanth too – they are all so experienced, knowledgeable, generous, and caring. Thank you also to the rest of the Breathing Space community; the faculty of teachers who let us observe their teaching and the practitioners we have ‘practiced on’ in our apprenticeships and teaching practice.
I have loved every single minute of the course, even the urdhva danurasana ones! Each module creatively allowed us to explore yoga through different prisms and went far beyond the physical but into the subtle and transformative layers of the practice. While I loved the opportunity to study in depth, I also really enjoyed the opportunities we had to explore Vinyasa yoga, Ashtanga yoga, Props, and Restorative Yoga too.
Most of all, I feel privileged to have shared my 200hr journey with six other amazingly strong, resilient, creative, joyful trainees. I have learned so much from each of them, and I will remember this time forever. We’ve come a long way in 10 months, but there’s a lifetime of learning still to come.
Rachel – Registered yoga teacher 200 hours, Lifelong Yoga Practitioner, and great teacher!”
Rachel’s testimonial truly captures the essence of our program. We are immensely proud of the transformative experiences our trainees go through, and we are honored to have been a part of Rachel’s journey. The strong bond formed among trainees and the support received from our experienced teachers and the Breathing Space community are integral to creating a nurturing and empowering environment.
As we bid farewell to this training cohort, we are filled with gratitude for the opportunity to guide and witness the growth of our trainees. We wish Rachel and all our graduates continued success as they embark on their paths as yoga professionals, knowing that there is a lifetime of learning and exploration ahead.
