Prenatal Yoga CPD: 25-Hour Pregnancy Yoga Teacher Training
Friday 6th – Sunday 8th November 2026 | The Breathing Space School of Yoga, Derby
Develop the knowledge, confidence and skills to teach prenatal yoga safely and compassionately.
Pregnancy is a powerful and sensitive time of change. As a yoga teacher, supporting women through this journey requires more than general yoga teaching knowledge. It calls for specialised understanding, confidence and care.
Our 25-hour Prenatal Yoga CPD is a three-day specialist training designed to help yoga teachers safely and confidently support pregnant students through each stage of pregnancy.
Combining anatomy and physiology, practical yoga, teaching methodology and embodied experience, the training explores how to adapt yoga for pregnancy while creating classes that feel empowering, nurturing and deeply supportive.
Whether you are looking to expand your teaching or deepen your understanding of women’s health, this CPD gives you practical tools and knowledge to support students during a significant and life-changing time.
Friday 6th November – Sunday 8th November 2026
25 hours | The Breathing Space School of Yoga, Derby
Why Take Prenatal Yoga CPD?
Pregnancy changes the body in profound ways. As the baby develops, a pregnant student’s posture, balance, movement, breathing, energy and physical comfort can all change.
For yoga teachers, understanding these changes allows us to teach with greater awareness and make appropriate adaptations.
The NHS recognises prenatal yoga as an appropriate form of physical activity during pregnancy, while also highlighting the importance of listening to the body, avoiding overexertion and ensuring instructors working with pregnant people are appropriately qualified.
Specialist training allows you to build on your existing yoga teaching skills and develop a more informed approach to working with pregnant students.
Rather than relying on a simple list of poses to avoid, you will explore how and why yoga may need to be adapted, and how to respond to the individual student in front of you.
What Will We Cover?
Across the three days, you will explore the foundations of safe and effective prenatal yoga teaching, combining theory with practical application.
Pregnancy and the Pregnant Body
We will explore:
- The benefits of a prenatal yoga practice
- The physical and emotional changes that occur during pregnancy
- How the body changes across each trimester
- Anatomy and physiology during pregnancy
- How the body and baby develop throughout pregnancy
- Trimester-specific considerations
- Pelvic-floor awareness and support
Understanding the changes taking place during pregnancy provides the foundation for making appropriate decisions about movement, asana and sequencing.
Adapting Yoga for Pregnancy
Pregnancy yoga is not simply about creating a completely separate set of postures.
Pregnant students may attend specialist prenatal classes, but they may also continue attending general yoga classes. Teachers therefore need to understand how to make appropriate adaptations within different teaching environments.
During the training, we will explore:
- How to adapt yoga for pregnancy
- Adapting general yoga classes for pregnant students
- Trimester-specific guidance
- Asana adaptations and modifications
- Sequencing for prenatal yoga classes
- Creating appropriate choices for individual students
- Supporting students to develop confidence and awareness in their own practice
The emphasis is on developing your ability to observe, listen and adapt, rather than teaching a rigid formula.
Pranayama and Meditation During Pregnancy
Breath and awareness are important aspects of yoga during pregnancy.
You will explore pranayama and meditation practices appropriate to pregnancy, considering how breathwork and relaxation can be used to support students throughout their pregnancy and as part of preparation for birth.
The training encourages an approach that is responsive to the individual, recognising that every pregnancy is different.
Pelvic Floor Awareness
The pelvic floor plays an important role during pregnancy and birth, making pelvic-floor awareness an important aspect of prenatal yoga teaching.
The course introduces teachers to the relationship between the pelvic floor, breath, movement and awareness, helping you develop a more informed approach when supporting pregnant students.
It is also important to understand the boundaries of the yoga teacher’s role. Yoga teachers do not diagnose or treat pelvic-floor dysfunction or other medical conditions. Where a student has pain, symptoms or a specific health concern, appropriate referral to a healthcare professional is essential.
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) provides further information for patients about pelvic girdle pain during pregnancy, including the importance of appropriate assessment and support.
Common Conditions, Health Concerns and When to Refer
Pregnancy does not look or feel the same for everyone.
Students may experience a range of common pregnancy-related conditions and health concerns, and teachers need to know when a practice may need to be modified — and when it is appropriate to refer a student to a qualified healthcare professional.
During the CPD, we will explore:
- Common conditions and concerns during pregnancy
- Appropriate modifications
- When additional support may be needed
- Recognising when a student should be referred
- Working within your professional scope of practice
A good prenatal yoga teacher understands not only how to adapt a practice, but also the boundaries of their role.
Yoga teaching should complement appropriate maternity and healthcare support rather than replace it.
For current UK guidance on exercise during pregnancy, we recommend referring students to the NHS guidance on exercising during pregnancy.
Introduction to Acupuncture Points for Labour Preparation
The training also includes an introduction to acupuncture points that are traditionally associated with labour preparation.
This is approached as an introduction within the context of prenatal yoga teaching rather than as a qualification to practise acupuncture.
Understanding the distinction between yoga teaching and other therapeutic professions is an important part of working ethically and responsibly with pregnant students.
Practice Teaching
Knowing the theory is only part of becoming a confident prenatal yoga teacher.
You will have opportunities for practice teaching, allowing you to explore how to communicate adaptations, offer appropriate choices and respond to students in a supportive way.
Practical teaching gives you the opportunity to move from understanding concepts to applying them.
You will develop your confidence in:
- Giving clear and appropriate instructions
- Offering modifications and alternatives
- Observing students
- Responding to individual needs
- Creating supportive prenatal sequences
- Teaching with greater confidence and sensitivity
Marketing and Ethics When Working with Pregnant Students
Teaching prenatal yoga also involves understanding the professional and ethical considerations of working within this specialist area.
The course explores marketing and ethics, helping you consider how to communicate your prenatal yoga offering appropriately and responsibly.
This includes thinking about your scope of practice, how you represent your skills and qualifications, and how you create a welcoming environment for pregnant students.
What Will You Learn?
By the end of this 25-hour CPD, you will be able to:
- Confidently teach safe and supportive prenatal yoga classes
- Understand the physical and emotional needs of pregnant students
- Adapt poses and sequences for different stages of pregnancy
- Apply trimester-specific considerations to your teaching
- Use appropriate breathwork and relaxation techniques
- Develop greater pelvic-floor awareness
- Recognise when to modify, support or refer a student
- Create inclusive and welcoming classes for different pregnancy journeys
- Apply your knowledge to both specialist and general yoga classes
- Feel more confident offering prenatal yoga as a specialist area within your teaching
Most importantly, you will develop a deeper understanding of how to teach the person rather than simply teach the pose.
A Compassionate and Inclusive Approach
Every pregnancy is different.
Students arrive with different bodies, experiences, circumstances, expectations and needs. Some may feel strong and energetic, while others may experience significant physical or emotional challenges.
Our approach is therefore centred around choice, adaptation, compassion and individual experience.
The training has a trauma-aware and accessible approach to pregnancy and birth, helping teachers consider not only the physical practice but also the environment in which that practice takes place.
Creating a safe and welcoming class means giving students permission to listen to their bodies, make choices and adapt their practice without judgement.

Trusted Pregnancy Information
As yoga teachers, it is important that we keep our knowledge current and distinguish between specialist yoga teaching and medical advice.
For reliable UK pregnancy and exercise information, we recommend:
NHS – Exercising in pregnancy
The NHS provides practical guidance on staying active during pregnancy, including information about prenatal yoga, exercise intensity and when to seek professional advice.
Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG)
The RCOG provides evidence-based information about pregnancy and women’s health, including guidance around pelvic girdle pain during pregnancy.
These resources are useful for both teachers and students, but they do not replace individual advice from a student’s midwife, GP, obstetrician, physiotherapist or other appropriate healthcare professional.
